Rookies Baseball Program for Pre-School Age 4

Please read below regarding information about Rookies

How Do I Know Which Site My Rookie Player Should Report To?  Rookies families will register for an East or West Side program.  East or West indicates whether to report to the Morningside Park (East) or the Bakker Park (West) site.  Rookies Families will receive correspondence from SEBA usually in May that will indicate which team your son or daughter has been assigned to. Each Rookies player will be assigned a team. To facilitate uniform distribution, please remember your team name.  On the first night, please report to your assigned park location and look for your assigned team location which will be marked by a sign. Generally, we will have seven to ten teams at each location.

WHEN WILL WE GET OUR UNIFORM?  You will receive your t-shirt and hat at the first session.  Players will be divided into teams.  Each player will receive a shirt and hat.  These “teams” will move from station to station together and will remain together every Monday.    Each station will focus on a specific baseball skill (i.e. catching, throwing, hitting, etc.) and each team will spend 5-10 minutes at a station.  Teams will rotate through as many stations as possible in the allotted hour each night.

DO WE NEED TO BRING GLOVES, BATS, ETC. OR HAVE SPECIAL SHOES OR OTHER EQUIPMENT?  Players should provide their own glove.  SEBA will provide all other equipment.  Regular tennis shoes or cleats can be worn, as well as active attire (shorts, sweats, baseball pants) and their Team shirt.

WILL THERE BE PICTURES?  Yes.  Scherling Photography will be doing pictures at both sites, weather permitting.  They will be taking team and individual pictures that are available for purchase by parents.  Picture packs will be available to parents if they would like to order a picture(s) of their future Big Leaguer!

DO THE ROOKIES PLAY GAMES?  Each Rookie “team” will be at a station.  Each station lasts approximately 5-10 minutes.  Each station is designed to teach a different baseball skill through drills.  A parent or guardian must be with the child as they go from station to station.  The parent or guardian is encouraged to actively participate with the child at each station.  There will be a “Coach” at each station to explain what to do.  Traditionally, we have played games on Pizza Night!

DO WE NEED TO PROVIDE SNACKS?    Each parent will be responsible for bringing a snack for their own child after each session for the first three sessions.  (i.e. water, fruit drink, etc.).  On Pizza Night,  pizza and a drink will be provided for the player and their immediate family.

WHERE DO WE PLAY?  The league will play on two sites (East & West). East side players will play at Morningside Park located at 33rd St and Bahnson Ave.  Parking is available along 33rd Street or in the parking lot for Harvey Dunn School.  West side players will play at Bakker Park located off 61st Street & Holbrook.

Final Note:

The Rookies Program is a fun program for the kids.  Parents are encouraged to follow their child from station to station to provide positive encouragement, support, and assistance if required.  Participation trophies will be awarded at Pizza Night!  Our Post 15 American Legion Baseball East and West squads will serve as coaches for our Rookie players at the Bakker Park and Morningside Park sites.
