The pairings for the College World Series tournament in Omaha, NE have been released. Sioux Falls East went 3-2 last summer in the tournament and have gone 7-8 overall the past 3 years in Omaha. East will play at Millard South High School for pool play games, but will also play a game at Millard West High School.
Post 15 East will begin tournament play on Wednesday, June 20th against Millard West Roof Tech. East last faced Millard West in 2015, falling by a score of 8-0. This game will not be included in their pool-play standings, but it will count as the first tie-breaker for means of advancing in the tournament. Millard West has 6 players committed to playing college baseball with 1 (Colby Gomes) committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. East will face Millard West at least twice this Summer, as they travel to Sioux Falls in July.
On Thursday, June 21st East will take on the host team, the Millard South 52's. East last matched up with the 52's in 2016, when East fell 2-1 in a pitcher's duel. Keenahn Coyle for East; currently pitching for the USF Cougars and Jonah Ulane for Millard South; currently pitching for the Kansas Jayhawks. Millard South currently has 2 players committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Drew Gilin and Kyle Perry. Perry, pitched 5 shut-out innings against our Fall Elite team in Des Moines, IA this past September.
On Friday, June 22nd East will face a couple fresh faces from the Sooner State, as they will play the South West Shockers Red and the Savages. These two teams are from Lawton and Tecumsem, both of which are in Oklahoma.
On Saturday, June 23rd Post 15 East will wrap up pool play with the Grand Forks Post 6 Royals out of North Dakota. East lost a pair of games to the Royals in the 2015 CWS Tournament.
Pool Champions will advance to Saturday Evening or Sunday Morning depending on where they are seeded.
Post 15 East has officially hired Wade Kippley to join the Legion Coaching Staff for the 2018 season as an Assistant Coach.
Coach Kippley is a native of Brookings, SD where he played Legion baseball for the Post 74 Brookings Bandits. Kippley then went on to attend SDSU (2007-2011), where he played tennis for the Jackrabbits.
During college, he coached five summers and one spring season for the Brookings Friends of Baseball program. From 2012-2016, Kippley taught English at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, SD and coached tennis, as well as baseball, for the Post 8 Junior Legion squad.
Kippley currently teaches and coaches tennis at Washington High School. This will be his first season with the Post 15 program.
Post 15 East is excited to announce we have hired Grant Stivers to become our new Pitching Coach beginning the Summer of 2018.
Coach Stivers attended Glenwood(IA) High School and was a 4 year letter winner. In 2010, his high school was able to seize the 3A State Championship.
After High School, Stivers signed to play baseball at Northwestern College. At NWC he was a 4 year varsity member mostly as a pitcher. Coach Stivers graduated Northwestern College in 2016 with a BA in Athletic Training and is currently pursuing his Masters in Education at the University of Sioux Falls.
