East cruised through their region tournament and was ready for action as they kicked off the state tournament on July 27 against Harrisburg.
Unfortunately for East, they started the weekend off with a loss. They were held to one run on three hits and allowed Harrisburg to record 12 hits and 10 runs.
The team put the loss behind them and defeated Yankton, 8-6 later that night. Charlie Mickelson and Patrick Osborn recorded two hits and Gabe Frerichs added in a double as well.
Extra innings were needed to determine the winner of the second round matchup that featured East and Brookings.
Brookings led for most of the game until a late East rally forced the game into extra innings. Aiden Brink walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to advance East on to the next round.
A win against Brandon Valley sent East to the championship game. Osborn and Jackson Boe both doubled as Jackson Geerts pitched three impressive innings in relief to give East a 7-4 win.
The team came up short of their ultimate goal as Harrisburg scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and continued with five more in the fifth to take the championship game, 14-7. East hit five doubles as a team and combined for 10 hits in the loss.
East finished the season with a 23-20 record.
