State Tournament

West would try to push aside a disappointing regular season and turn on the jets for the state tournament July 27 through 29.

The team could not have had a better start to the tournament after blowing out Huron, 13-1 as the lower seed in the matchup.

Dexter Payne went five innings without giving up a hit and struck out 10 Huron batters. On the other side of the ball, Tyler Kindvall, Payne and Brody Bohnet each had multi-hit games. In total, West recorded nine hits to defeat Huron.

West was once again the lower seed in their next game against Harrisburg later that night. West was on the wrong side of a blowout in their second game of the tournament as Harrisburg would breeze by to win, 15-5.

Kindvall drove in three baserunners on his two hits for West.

West would bounce back with an impressive 10-8 win against Yankton on July 28 and a nail-biting win vs. Brookings to end the weekend on July 29.

Kindvall continued his hot streak at the plate by finishing with another multi-hit game to lead West in their final game of the season.
