West began their 2018 season with a double header at home on May 23 against Brookings. Brookings jumped out to a 6-4 lead after the first inning and followed with a seven run top of the 2nd. West collected eight hits and Brookings had nine in the high-scoring affair. Sam Siegfried scored three of West's eight runs while going 2-3 with a double and a walk in the team's 17-8 opening night loss.
West continued to struggle against Brookings in the second game as they fell 12-4. The West lineup walked seven different times in the game, but were limited to four runs and three hits in the four-inning game.
West traveled on the road for their first game in 2018 against Brandon Valley Red in Brandon. West broke into the win column with a 9-1 win. It was a solid, all-around performance for the team as Ryan Rysavy allowed just one run and struck out 12 in the five innings he pitched. Treyson Harty-Olsen was a home run shy of the cycle after going 3-3 in the game. West as a team out-hit Brandon Valley Red 8-7.
West won their second consecutive game, 4-0 on May 26 against Renner in Brandon. Another strong pitching outing was thrown by West starter Thomas Heilberger. West's pitching, including Heilberger and Camden Hvam combined to shutout Renner and strike out 11 batters.
Cyclones Red was the next opponent for West on May 27 at Aspen Park in Brandon. After watching Cyclones Red take an early lead in the 2nd, West tied the game up, 2-2 in the 4th inning. Cyclones Red responded with four runs in the 5th and one in the 6th to claim a 7-3 victory.
Harrisburg was West's next road destination as the two teams faced off in a double header on May 30. West was unable to recover from Harrisburg's early run surge in the first game, losing 14-9, but responded in the next game, winning 11-7. A two hit day for Harty-Olsen, Logan Riddle and Landon Weis fueled the West offense, who combined for eight hits.
West traveled to Yankton for the Yankton Tournament on June 1 to take on the Yankton Reds. In the 10-2 loss, West only managed to record two hits, but reached base seven times on walks. Landon Weis drove in West's only two runs on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning.
In the second game of the tournament for West on June 2, the West offense was able to score 11 runs in the first two innings in an 11-1 win against Renner. Landon Dunker had two hits and two RBIs in his two plate appearances while Ryan Rysavy pitched four innings and gave up one earned run.
West took on Yankton Gray later on June 2 as they were able to win by a 10 run difference for the second straight game, winning 12-2. Logan Riddle brought in four runs on three hits including a double. Thomas Heilberger earned the win by pitching four innings and struck out nine.
West concluded the Yankton Tournament with a 12-0 win over Mitchell on June 3. Noah Willis pitched the three innings played in the game and allowed just one hit. Offensively, West doubled five times and finished with nine hits, overall.
