SEBA Administration

Our Mission

The Sioux Empire Baseball Association (SEBA) is a non-profit 501c3 organization committed to providing advanced, developmental and adaptive baseball programs for all who wish to participate; striving to promote sportsmanship, education, commitment, dedication, and a positive attitude through the game of baseball. The Sioux Empire Baseball Association does not discriminate on the basis of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental ability, medical condition, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, or age.


The People Behind SEBA

The Association provides its membership with a three  person full-time internal staff that supervises all short and long range planning and implementation of it youth programming. The internal staff supervised over 450 volunteer coaches and 75 paid staff. These staff members include our internal office staff, coaches, interns, gate workers, site directors, umpire coordinators, and camp staff. If you also add to that over 125 paid SEBA umpires it totals out to over 200 paid SEBA staff. Total staff supervised amounted to over 675 individuals. Factoring in the additional volunteer staff that were utilized for Miracle League Ball Buddies and tournament scorekeepers and operators, the Association relies on over 700 individuals to assist in the implementation of its programming.

Chad Barman

Chad Barman, a native of DeForest, WI, has been the Executive Director of the Sioux Empire Baseball Association since August, 2017.

Chad is a graduate of Augustana University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management and Master's Degree in Sports Administration and Leadership.

Jeff Campbell

Director of Baseball Operations

Jeffrey Campbell, a native of Clearwater, Fl, has been with SEBA since 2018. He has worked as the Player Development/Baseball Operations Director, running offseason academy, camps and clinics. This year his focus will be on the offensive side.
Jeffrey holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Where he played baseball all 4 years from 2012-2015. He played a variety of positions from 1st base to the OF and even was a starting pitcher his first three years before he moved into the closer role during his senior year. In 2012 Jeffrey was selected to the Freshman All-American team along with being named Newcomer of the year and 1 st team all-conference for the Great West Conference. In his career he hit .303 with 32 HR 43 2B 222 H 162 RBI. He finished 2nd all time in Total Bases (373), RBI (162) and doubles (43) and fourth in homers (32). After the 2015 season he competed and won the 2015 College Home Run Derby.
In 2015 Jeffrey went on to play a season in the Atlanta Braves organization for the Danville Braves. He hit .277 in 25 G with 9 2B playing 1 st base.
After Jeffrey’s playing days were over, he got right into coaching. He found Total Baseball Academy in Clearwater, FL to begin his coach career. He coached 4 different teams in his 2 years at the academy. His 11u team went to the USA futures games in 2018 along with the USSSA Elite 32s that same season. His time at the academy was split between working with both the hitting and pitching.
Jeffrey is married to Amanda and enjoy hobbies of bowling and playing golf together in their free time.

Betzi Plucker

Director of Internal Operations

Betzi Plucker, from Sioux Falls, SD has been with SEBA since 2016, she serves as Assistant Director of Development. She is always on the lookout for businesses and partners to help support our youth baseball teams, tournaments and parks!

Betzi is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Consumer Affairs.

In 2018 Betzi married her husband Josh and in 2019 they welcomed their daughter Rory into their life. 

Betzi also coaches two cheerleading teams here in Sioux Falls. She is the Head Cheerleading Coach for Sioux Falls Lincoln High School and Augustana University. Her passions are Sioux Falls, Cheer, her family and her friends.

Layne Somsen

Assistant Director - Player Development

Layne Somsen, a native of Yankton, SD., joined the SEBA staff in 2017 and is in charge of pitcher development. Somsen graduated from South Dakota State University in 2013 with a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and earned his Master’s in
Sports Administration from Arkansas State University in 2019.
During his time at SDSU, Somsen was a standout pitcher for the Jackrabbits. After his senior season, he was named Summit League Pitcher of the Year posting a 4-5 record with a 1.87 ERA in 91.1 innings pitched. Somsen struck out 91 batters, while holding
opponents to a .196 batting average. He finished his career ranked fourth on the school’s all-time list in games started (38), strikeouts (180) and innings pitched (215).

Upon graduation, Somsen was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds and has since played in the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. Over his 7-year career, Somsen played at every level, (Rookie, A-, A+, AA, AAA, MLB), of professional baseball. Over 284 career innings, Somsen holds a 20-9 record with 290 strikeouts.

Amy Gesch

Semi-Retired/Assistant to Chad Barman

Amy Gesch, a native of Green Bay, WI, has been with SEBA since 2006. She worked part-time in the office and at tournaments for two years and then took over as Assistant Director in June 2008. Her position has gone through some changes over the years as additional staff were hired, and she held the position of Finance Director until December 31, 2022.  Amy is now semi-retired and assisting Chad Barman in the financial aspects of SEBA.

Amy holds a B.S. in mathematics and psychology from Carroll College (now Carroll University) in Waukesha, WI.

After college Amy and her husband moved to the Washington DC area where Amy worked as a computer programmer for the U.S. Census Bureau. Amy and her family moved to Sioux Falls in fall of 1992. Amy worked as a computer programmer for Precision Computer Systems and then as a preschool educational assistant for Sioux Falls Lutheran School before joining the SEBA staff.

Amy is married to Dean and has two sons, a daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters. She enjoys baking, reading, knitting, sewing and other crafts. And, yes, she is a Green Bay Packers fan.

BOARD MEETINGS

SEBA Board meetings are generally scheduled to accommodate programming as well as the needs of the association.  Individuals who wish to address the Board of Directors must submit a Agenda Item Request email no later than 48 hours prior to the Board Meeting one wishes to speak at. According to the By-Laws, the Annual Meeting is to be held sometime during the month of September.

All meetings will be subject to date, time, and location changes pending SEBA camps, clinics, practices, & games; other SEBA-related meetings; and holidays.
