Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite East

The Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite – East team kicked off their Fall schedule by traveling to Des Moines, Iowa for the “Sportsplex West/Prep Baseball Report Wood Bat Exposure Tournament”.  East finished the weekend with an 0-3-1 record, facing teams from Nebraska, Missouri and two teams from Minnesota.

Nebraska Prospects – 4
Sioux Falls Elite East – 0

Sioux Falls East kicked off their weekend against the Nebraska Prospects, the eventual pool champion.  Kyle Perry (Nebraska – Lincoln Commit) shut down East with five no-hit innings.  Cyler Melvin broke up the no-hitter with a double in the sixth inning.  Brandon Ford also contributed offensively with a seventh inning single.  The bright spot of the game was Austin Ruhland who tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out one.

Pine Tar Academy – 6
Sioux Falls Elite East – 0
3 Innings

Game two saw East take on the Pine Tar Academy out of Edina, MN.  The game was tied after 2.5 innings but Pine Tar Academy broke through in the third inning, scoring six runs.  That was all that would be played due to heavy rains that washed out the remainder of the day at the Des Moines Lincoln site.  In three offensive innings, Zach Allender and Austin Ruhland reached base with singles.

Great Lakes Lumberjacks – 1
6 Innings

After a lengthy morning rain delay, East picked back up with a game against the Great Lake Lumberjacks from Woodbury, MN.  This was a very well-pitched and well-defended game by both sides.  Great Lakes scored one run in the top of the sixth but was matched by East in the bottom when an attempted steal of home force a balk and a tie game.  Due to the rain, time-limits were in play, which led to a final score of 1-1.  Presten Riddle held the Lumberjacks in check throughout the day, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three.  He earned a complete game for his efforts.  Offensively, Cyler Melvin lead the way with two hits, one of which was a double.  Nick Kemper tripled and scored the only run of the weekend.

6 Innings

In the final game of the tournament, Sioux Falls East took on Complete Game from Kansas City, Missouri.  East’s defense consistently let them down, allowing Complete Game to score five runs off of six errors. Brandon Ford struck out four over four innings and Jake Smith struck out three over two innings.  Cyler Melvin, Nick Kemper and Luke Pullen each had one hit as East was shutout for the third time on the weekend.

Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West

Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West team participated in the Wood Bat Exposure Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa this past weekend. They came out of the tournament with a 2-2 record playing against teams from Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. West was led offensively by Ben Simonsen and pitching from Carlos Caro.

Sioux Fall Post 15 Elite West scores late to defeat Iowa Sticks Scout in their first game on Saturday morning. Iowa Sticks took an early lead before West tied the game in the 3rd inning. Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West took the lead for good in scoring 3 in the top of the 5th and scored an insurance run in the 7th. Matt Fiegen took the win for Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West. Offensively, Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West collected 13 hits. Karsten Grove, John Rogers, Carter Ades, Mason Crow, and Carlos Caro had multiple hits.

 

Minnesota Mayhem - 8          Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West - 6

 

Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West loses lead in the 7th to lose 8-6 to the Mayhem. Carlos Caro helped West take an early 1-0 lead with an rbi double in the 1st. In the 3rd inning, the Mayhem tied the game at 2-2. West took a 6-4 lead after scoring 4 in the 6th inning, but gave up for in the 7th. Sioux Falls Elite West was led offensively by John Rogers and Caro had multiple hits 2 rbi’s a piece. Mason Crow took the ND with 4 innings pitched, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking one.

 

Nebraska Barnstormers - 12         Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West - 3

 

Rough 5th inning hurt Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West in 12-3 loss to Nebraska Barnstormers. West tied the game at 1-1 in the 5th inning on a Cole Adam single. In the 6th inning the Barnstormers score 9 take a 10-1 lead. Sioux Falls West score one in the 6th and 7th to make the final score 12-3. Karsten Grove took the loss tossing  4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and striking out 1. Offensively West had six hits and led by Ben Simonsen and Carter Ades with two hits each.

Early lead helps Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West defeat Nebraska Prospects 6-2. West took a 1-0 lead in the first and added 3 more in the 3rd. In the 4th, West added 2 more insurance runs. Sioux Falls Post 15 Elite West was lead by a masterful pitching performance from Carlos Caro throwing 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, striking out 4 and 1 walk on 64 pitches. Offensively, West was lead by Ben Simonsen and Matt Fiegen with 2 hits a piece.
